There’s a reason that Phoenix and its surrounding cities are called the “Valley of the Sun”. It was a HOT and dry 97 degrees in early October. We stayed at the Moxy, aka the “Millennial hotel,” in Tempe, AZ. Moxy is a great place to stay if you’re looking for a low-key hotel to meet up with friends. Check-in is via the bar, and most Moxy hotels have a “game area,” i.e. pool table, board games, etc. Moxy Phoenix is the original Moxy and includes a pool, arcade, and lawn games.

Carousel at McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park (dogs allowed, $3/ride)
We woke up at 6am-7am and went out with the pups, before retiring around lunch and taking the afternoon off since it was too hot to walk around. Plan your day accordingly!
Great places for strolling and sightseeing include Papago Park, McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park, and downtown Gilbert. McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park has two rides (the carousel and train) that pups are allowed on. There are no pup seat belts, so hold on to your dog! We went on a weekday, and there was no line to get onto the rides.
If bringing dogs into the HOT weather, make sure to pack extra cold water, a cooling vest, and doggy ice cream. My pups love the Yoghund YoPup brand, which is found in most Petco stores, but they’ll eat anything.
